Corporate Social Responsibility

While building the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, the members of the project team were also able to help out a local school. Together with their subcontractors and the architect they built new classrooms for Soweto children.
BAM International takes its corporate social responsibilities (CSR) seriously; its comprehensive CSR policy is applied throughout its worldwide operations. The basis of this policy is that we conduct our business in such a way that our values and behaviour are aligned to the expectations and needs of our stakeholders and society. Local legislation requirements are the absolute minimum standard for our operations.
Central to the implementation of the policy are:
- Ethical behaviour
- Transparency
- Good communications
- Care of employees
- Care of health and safety
- Attention to training and development
- Attention to community relations
- Care of the environment
- Sustainable development
The policy is put into effect on our projects through the project plans. These plans not only take account of our corporate social undertakings, but also include any additional requirements specific to the project. The implementation of the policy both at Head Office and on the projects is periodically checked by audit and review.
Ongoing awareness amongst our employees is maintained through regular presentations and discussions. These and the audits help to ensure that the obligations of our policy are kept at the forefront and that its concepts are understood by everyone. The goal is to embed CSR fully into all aspects of the company’s culture.
As an operating company of Royal BAM Group, we are part of a campaign to reduce CO₂ emissions and waste from our operations. These elements are measured and reported per quarter by all BAM operating companies to Royal BAM Group. The BAM wide targets for 2010 are to reduce CO₂ emissions by 5% compared to 2009 and to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPI) based objectives for waste management and waste reduction.
