BAM International has constructed 37 navigation aid structures and two mooring dolphins in Pepel (close to Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown) on the Sierra Leone river. In addition to improving navigation, BAM refurbished an existing jetty. Approximately 50 years of age, this jetty needed renewal of its quick release hooks and fender system. BAM has provided access to the new mooring dolphins with two new walkways from the main jetty.

These works form part of the rehabilitation of a loading facility for iron ore. Client is African Minerals Ltd. Special equipment included BAM’s own crane barge Marlin to drive the 60-metre-long piles. The works were carried out in a (50/50) joint venture with Stefanutti Stocks from South Africa.
