Nelson Mandela Bay stadium - Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Printer-friendly version

This is the first one of the stadiums that was completed for 2010’s FIFA World Cup by BAM International (together with Grinaker-LTA). The multi-purpose stadium has five levels and a seating capacity for 45,000 spectators. The stadium was built in a record time. BAM started in April 2007 en only needed two years to complete the venue. The roof with a cladding of aluminium panels onto girders and membrane between girders is a state-of-the-art design.

In addition to construction management skills and experience in recruiting large crews on short notice, BAM International brought the specialised stadium design skills of its German BAM sisters to the joint venture construction team.

‘Fastest constructed stadium of its size ever, anywhere in the world, with high quality level of the finishing and outfitting.’
