Desalination plant (marine works) - Sur, Oman
Design and construction of a 1,200 mm diameter seawater intake pipe line of 775 metres long, and a 1,200 mm diameter outfall pipe line of 625 metres long.
In this exposed part of Oman’s coastline, the design of the pipeline required an offshore trench (5 metres wide and 2.5 metres deep) with pipe ballast and pipe protection. Explosives were used to create the offshore and onshore trenches. A jack-up barge and drilling tower drilled the offshore blast holes, which extended some three metres below the final trench depth and were charged by a team of expert divers.
‘The output of the new plant has increased the regions water supply to 80,000 m³ per day.’
