Cocoon silences drilling rig

7 December 2001 09:19 - Royal BAM Group nv

A noise level reduction of no less than 25 decibels and a very short erection time – those were the design requirements that HBG Steel Structures has been able to unify perfectly with its 'cocoon' for silencing a floating drilling rig.

The vessel, towering 46 metres, has been built according to a conventional design. HBG Steel Structures will be required to erect the cocoon in a couple of days. All the components have been so dimensioned that they will fit into standard containers for transportation. 56 consignments will be necessary to ship all the parts and panels.

This design-and-construct contract is worth €3.6 million.
